GNU social is the primary social platform project supported by the Free Software Foundation. Its distributed architecture, modularity, and versatility make it the leading candidate to become the free standard of the Sharing Economy and of distributed web apps.
The plugin system is the ecosystem to develop new features and apps on GNU social. The knowledge about this ecosystem will be key in the promotion of GNU social as platform for the development of new distributed hospitality platforms and other needs of the Sharing Economy.
Fortunately we are not starting from scratch. We already have success stories in the development of distributed alternatives using GNU social as platform. The most notable case is Qvitter, alternative to Twitter, but more recently have seen with joy advances in the development of Quitim, an alternative to Instagram.
During the GNU social camp Hannes Mannerheim, lead maintainer and developer of Qvitter and Quitim, will give a Master Class on the development of GNU social plugins and will lead a workshop. During the workshop we will make first steps as architects of the distributed federated social Web.
